Black Pepper -- Rabbits are repelled by the pungent odor and taste of black pepper. Dust your garden with black pepper, especially around bean plants, lettuce, peas, carrots, strawberries, and apple tree bark. Gatorade -- You can use empty Gatorade bottles to protect small plants from visiting rabbits. Clean the bottle, cut off the bottom, and secure the uncapped bottle into the soil over the plant. Make sure to remove the bottle when the weather gets warm. Aluminum Foil and Packaging Tape -- You can keep rabbits from gnawing on the bark of the tree by wrapping aluminum foil loosely about the trunk of the tree and securing it with packaging tape. The rattling noise and the shiny foil will scare rabbits away. Molasses and Salt -- Rabbits enjoy clovers, so grow a patch of wildflowers and clovers in one section of your yard. This gives them something to munch on besides your garden. To initially attract the rabbits to the clovers, make a mixture of a gallon of water, a cup of molasses, and a tablespoon of salt. Spray this on the patch of clovers. Interesting Rabbit Facts: When rabbits are born, they can't see, and they have no fur. Their cousins, hares, are born with fur and able to see. The jackrabbit is a kind of hare. Rabbits can eat poison ivy without any consequences. They also eat weeds such as dandelions, crab grass, knotweed, and ragweed. Source: Gardening Magic
