Precautions for Outdoor Pesticide Use

  • Ensure there is plenty of light and ventilation.
  • When you're opening a container of liquid, hold it away from your face and well below eye level.
  • Don't apply pesticides near wells or groundwater, or on lawns where people or pets might walk.
  • Only mix the amount you need for the job.
  • Don't store mixed pesticides.
  • Read the instructions on the label before opening the container.
  • Only use the pesticide for the pest and plants specified on the label.
  • Don't apply pesticides on a windy day. If there is somewhat of a breeze, stand upland from the applicator so that chemical drops blow away from you.
  • Keep family members and animals away until the spray has dried.
  • Don't use pesticides on bees. It can make them go berserk and sting anything in sight.
  • Don't smoke while spraying pesticides.
