How to Get Rid of Ants Naturally

Are ants invading your home or garden and driving you crazy?

Fortunately, there are some simple items around most households that you can use to get rid of these pesky six-legged insects. You don't necessarily have to spend money on often-toxic chemical bug sprays either, as these are natural remedies.

First off, ants hate flour. Hard to believe such an innocuous substance could keep them away, but it can. To keep ants away from food storage areas, try sprinkling a line of flour along the backs of pantry shelves as well as any place you seem them entering. Since ants don't like the stuff, they won't cross the line.

Adhesive tape is something you've probably got in a kitchen drawer or home office, and it too can be used as a simple ant deterrent. Tape placed sticky side up will trap them and keep them from crossing the line. Simply place a "moat" around food items that ants are drawn too (a plate of cookies on an outdoor table during a barbecue for example) to keep them away.

Due to their acidity, lemons are also a great way to keep ants away. Instead of using chemical-laden insecticides, simple give your kitchen the lemon treatment to keep ants out. Squirt lemon juice on door thresholds and around the windowsills (natural entry points for insects), and also apply the juice to any holes or cracks where ants might gain entry. In addition, you may want to scatter small slices of lemon peel around outside doors. (Lemons can also be useful against cockroaches and fleas--a solution of four lemons (with rinds) with 1/2 gallon of water can be applied to floors to keep out fleas and roaches.)
